Pass the famous Promenade (Riva) admiring the view of Zadar Channel, islands of Ugljan and Pašman and the open sea to the northwest. Admire afterwards the symbol of Zadar, the church of St.Donat. Look at the same time at the Belfry of the Romanesque Cathedral of St.Anastasia while standing on a 1st century B.C. Forum surrounded by roman architecture built at that time and later.
Take a moment and glance at the Church and Convent of St.Mary, the keepers of the Permanent Exhibition of religious art. Here the benedictine nuns kept for centuries Zadar’s most precious relics. At the Exhibition you will see relics and items that range from 7th to 18th century. The nuns stored and preserved the items in two wings of the convent complex. The Permanent Exhibition covers three floors. Romanesque sculpture is at the ground floor. Later come paintings, sculpture, gold and silver-work, Romanesque and Gothic embroidery at the 1st floor and late Gothic to Baroque exhibits are on the 2nd floor.
The most famous street of Zadar, Kalelarga, won’t leave you indifferent or wondering why Tomislav Ivčić, one of the most famous Croatian singers born and raised in Zadar, sung about this particular street in his song ‘Kalelarga’.
Our walking tour will take you to the People’s Square (Narodni trg) where a lot of people like to meet or drink coffee and listen to street artists that perform in front of a lovely medieval City Hall. Also known as a Loggia(Loža). Both, City Guard and Loža, are projects of a famous architect Gian Girolamo Sanmicheli from Venice .
The 120 min walking tour introduces you to Zadar old town, the Peninsula approx. 1km x 400m, from Sea Organ to the port of Foša where the huge Land Gate triumphal arch closes the old core.
